Los Alamos Our Home Vineyard

Los Alamos Vineyard, located just 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara County, is at the heart of what makes SEAGLASS wines truly special. Nestled along the region’s unique east-west coastal range, Los Alamos benefits from a daily dance of wind and fog funneled in from the ocean, which helps to moderate temperatures and extend the growing season. This constant coastal influence is essential to developing the vibrant, fresh character that defines our wines.

What sets Los Alamos Vineyard apart is its distinctive sandy soil, almost entirely composed of fine sand particles. This unusual soil composition heats up rapidly in the morning sun, leading to an earlier bud break than in surrounding vineyards. The result is an extended growing season that allows the grapes to ripen slowly, developing their signature bright acidity, crisp aromatics, and concentrated flavors.

At SEAGLASS, we believe that great wine starts in the vineyard, and Los Alamos is proof of that philosophy. The unique combination of cool ocean air, coastal fog, and sandy soil creates an ideal environment for growing grapes that capture the true essence of California’s Central Coast.

Ocean Influenced The Central Coast

Our Corner of the central Coast starts in Santa Barbara County, fanning inland to Paso Robles and north to Monterey County. Santa Barabara County is home to wind-swept hillsides and exceptional, cool-climate fruit. Equally shaped by cooling breezes funneled in from the Pacific Ocean, Monterey County, is renowned for grapes with an elegant balance of flavor and acidity. Even in Paso Robles, the warmest appellation in California, the coastal influence reaches some 25 miles inland to cool the vines, giving this region its signature warm days and cool nights. The dynamic tapestry of the Central Coast allows our Winemaker, Christine Morrison, to create balanced, expressive wines that reflect the beauty of the region.
